It’s that time of the year again…. racing against the clock to get the perfect gifts for all of your loved ones and dusting off your recipe book to host your perfect holiday party.
The holiday season brings significant increases in traffic everywhere, including your bathroom. When you host your party this year, keep these simple tips in mind to keep your bathroom functioning properly:
- Make all bathrooms available | If you have multiple bathrooms in your home, and if you’re able to, consider making all your bathrooms available to guests. This helps alleviate stress on one bathroom. It will also prevent any lines from building up outside your bathrooms.
- Make sure you have a plunger | In case of any backups, a plunger always comes in handy. Make sure it’s close to the toilet and visible in case a guest encounters an emergency situation. Flooding from a backed-up toilet can get out of hand very quickly, a plunger can be a lifesaver in these situations.
- Have visible trash can nearby | If you put a trash can close to the sink or toilet, anywhere it’s visible, it will discourage guests from flushing miscellaneous items down your toilet. Even wipes that claim to be “flushable” are not recommended to be sent down your toilet pipes. If you want to take it a step further, you could make fun or decorative signs that suggest what should be done with items people normally flush down the toilet such as, napkins, cocktail straws, feminine napkins, etc.
The holidays can bring a lot of stress. Don’t add plumbing problems to your stress. You can avoid issues by simply following the tips suggested. You can also rely on your plumbing professional for a pre-party inspection. In case you do encounter some plumbing troubles, plumbers normally have an emergency service too!
