If the flooding in your neighborhood does not immediately drain and there is standing water for a period of time, there is a possibility that your underground plumbing may have been damaged. The saturated soil combined with floodwaters can create a heavyweight that can crack or crush the plumbing underground. Once it is safe and the floodwaters recede, check your front, back, and side yard for any uneven or sunken in the earth. If there is, contact a plumbing professional immediately for an assessment.

Another common result of floods is developing clogged drains. Thankfully this is relatively easy to remedy. Floodwaters are full of debris and sediment that can flow into plumbing that is submerged underwater. Unfortunately, those that were not damaged by the storm and were submerged for a long period of time will need to be taken apart and cleaned with bleach. Mold is a real issue after the food waters dissipate, especially in South Florida. Make sure that your outdoor faucets and spigots receive the same treatment.
Exposed Pipe Damage
If you had to replace any indoor or outdoor plumbing fixtures due to damage by the storm, most likely the pipe that is connected to them is damaged as well. Make sure to inspect the connected pipe for any cracks or pinches. Also, be mindful of any new water that is underneath the exposed plumbing. If you see any damage, do not use the connecting fixture and immediately call a professional plumber.
