New Year doesn’t just mean “new you”. Often, the beginning of the new year also inspires homeowners or business owners to begin thinking of changes to make to their places of business and/or residence. If you don’t know where to start, we’ve compiled a list for you.
NEW YEAR’S PLUMBING CHECKLIST
- GARBAGE DISPOSAL | Inspect your garbage disposal for any leaks or clogs. Remember not to throw the following down it:
- Coffee grounds
- Oils
- Bacon grease
- CHECK FAUCETS | Check all of the faucets in your home for leaks. Chances are, your kitchen faucets are probably used the most. Make sure there are no leaks coming from the faucet itself, or underneath the sink in the pipes.
- BATHROOM DRAINS | Fill a large container or bucket with water and pour it into your tub and bathroom sink. This will test your drains. Hair and dirt tend to build up inside your bathroom drains if they are not regularly cleaned out. This test will let you know if you have clogs that need to be addressed.
- CHECK CAULKING | Look around at the caulking near your sinks, tub and toilet. Caulk is supposed to seal these areas and prevent leaks. Make sure your caulking is doing this.
- RUNNING TOILET? | Listen to see if your toilet runs. If it’s running, chances are, you should get it looked at by a professional. Running toilets use up a large amount of water and will spike your water bill.
- KEEP PARTS UP TO DATE | Your plumbing won’t last forever. Inspect your plumbing and pay special attention to those parts that work the hardest or most often. Items like the hoses on your washing machines or appliances, such as your hot water heater, should be inspected annually.
