What Is a Sewer Camera Inspection, and Do You Need One?

How does it work? A waterproof camera on a flexible cable is fed through a cleanout or drain opening and pushed through the pipe, sending a live video feed back to a monitor so the technician can see the interior condition of the line in real time — cracks, blockages, root intrusion, misaligned joints, or bellies where the pipe has sunk.

When would I need one? Recurring clogs in the same drain, slow drainage throughout the whole house (a sign the problem is in the main line, not a single fixture), a sewage smell in the yard, or as due diligence before buying a home with an older sewer line.
